History and the start of Snowball
2005 Snowball was started by Mohan Pakkurti and Kenneth Norbelie. They wanted to combine a great social swing dance party and the ultimate lindy workshop with the best instructors to one big event located in Stockholm. The first Snowball took place at the end of December and ended with a big New Year’s party.
2006 we found a new location at the Stockholm Museum of Music and engaged the special Snowball All Star Band as our musicians in the evenings. The event was now almost twice as big as the first year!
2007 the organization of Snowball changed and expanded. Hasse & Marie Mattsson took over the baton from Mohan and became the new organizers together with Kenneth & Helena. The number of participants at the camp increased and we easily filled the Musical Museum. There was a need off a new and bigger venue for the future.
2008 all evening dances were held at the brand new and elegant Clarion Sign Hotel in Stockholm, where there is a great ballroom which can house a nice big crowd. The New Years dinner was served at the Hotel and many of our participants opted to stay at the hotel. The rumor about the fantastic hotel breakfasts is now widely spread in the lindy hop community. This was the best Snowball year so far...
Evaluations of Snowball show that we are close to our goals - to arrange the ultimate workshop and to engage the best instructors. But close is not enough- we aim to be perfect.
2009 the event grew and grew and grew, this year The Snowball had over 550 attendees. The event had 6 bands playing during these 7 nights, the house band was Steven Mitchell & Malcolm Holt as the Rhythm Catz along with the Gordon Webster Sextet, guest singer was, Miss Naomi Uyama.
2010 will now be the sixth year for the Snowball event and we look forward to make this year’s edition even better. We hope that you want to be part of it again or maybe join us for the first time. Together we will create an event that will be a memorable dance and celebration of the New Year! |
